Packard Bell iXtreme I6803

This is my brand new pc; Gnome3 shell will not run, nor Unity.

I found a test program which says (please see attachment)

What can I do?

Probably cause it doesnt recognize your video card. Get the drivers then run the test again (if you dont already have them installed)

If it still doesnt work (that would mean you have a crappy graphic card)

you can still get gnome 2d

Yes, I get Gnome2d.
I am using to live-cd, and I am not installing 11.04 for the moment. I will run the test later (now in Mint10) and let you know.

That's possibly why you can't get unity, it needs a proprietary driver which the live CD can not use.

The test program is on the live cd; I don't know if I can run it on my Mint system, but will try it tomorrow (European time :-)

You are saying you are testing from a live CD. I bet your computer can handle it, you just need to install it to HDD and install the video drivers. If you have an NVidia, Ubuntu should notify you about them.

Sorry for the delay; I tried desparately to install Ubuntu 11.04.
I burned several installation-CD's (regular and alternate), and tried a DVD which was included in a Linux magazine.

Sometimes I could start the live session, sometimes not. (it worked however on my 4-year-old laptop.)

Installation worked only after changing nomodoset en acpi settings but I hardly understand what that means :-) .
Starting up the installed 11.04 failed, even in safe mode.

I could install Kubuntu 11.04 without trouble!

I suppose it has something: to do with http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743535 , but I give up....
Will stick on W7 and Mint 10.

Nvidia card

Funny: 11.10 alpha 3 runs fine...
I will skip 11.04
