+2 i understand where people are coming from with the whole privacy thing, but it doesn't matter for me. I could care less if anybody knew what i did online or knew my ip. I have nothing to hide, well not much, and mostly all anybody would see is my school work.

I use both DuckDuckGo SSL and Scroogle SSL, sometimes DuckDuckGo gives better results and sometimes Scroogle does. The zero-click info is really useful.

Privacy maybe? Also I like duckduck go's relevant links box that usually outputs to stuff like wikipedia, dictionary.com, and all kinds of stuff. If you've never tried DDG, check it out. Search algorithms aren't that bad for a non-google search either.

I don't think people use DuckDuckGo because they think it gives them complete privacy which is impossible now unless you're living in a cave on a remote island with no electronic devices. It's used because it takes away a lot of Google's clutter, provides information quickly and adds a little privacy, and a little is better than none (but some people don't care, which is fine too).

I prefer Google as I trust them to prevent harmful redirects, which smaller competitors may not be able to keep up with.

I like Google's clutter. Last weekend I needed to purchase a new lawnmower blade. Typed in the make and model of the mower, Google shows on the right side where I can buy the blade, the hour's of the store and a map.

I clicked on some and found one. Google made a few cents of a great algorithm.

DuckDuckGo is for quacks. Lol jk. I originally learned about it from this (http://lifehacker.com/5788772/when-not-to-google-searches-youre-better-off-making-elsewhere) Lifehacker article and I use it occasionally. You people should read the article.

I have DuckDuck go on my list and us it from time to time . I visit mostly computer forums anyway , so I'm not too concerned about who knows that . Most trackers are blocked by the browser extensions I use .

Duckduckgo I like a lot of their ideas so I use and recommend it. Privacy is less important to me but being a little less out there can't hurt. The info box at the top is fantastic and continues to get better day by day. To be honest I am just tired of using google.

DuckDuckGo is the first search engine I've tried that actually gives me results that I like better than Google's.

For example, I love the feature in DuckDuckGo where it marks the "Official Site" of a company. A lot of the time I'm searching a company, eg, Sony, and I want the offical site. Most of the time when searching Google, I have trouble even finding the Official site. With DuckDuckGo it's the first site and it's marked. This is just one of the features I prefer in DuckDuckGo search wise. Additionally, I also find results in the searches that I want that are showing up way down the page on Google. Another plus is how additional search results auto-load as I scroll the page. No more clicking "Next Page"!!!

Also a plus
Is DDG open source?

Some of it. It's also largely built with "FOSS". We also give 10% of our income to FOSS.
