Hi all!
I'm new to Linux and I need to install it on my laptop for a university project (well to run a specific program but that's beside the point)
I want to install it (Ubuntu 11.04) along side my normal windows operating system, and I understand that you can do that, however, the installation process won't let me.
Essentially what happens is I boot from a USB, go to install linux, and after the language selection page (which is really cut down, no option to try linux from the CD or something, just 'You may wish to read the release notes' and the options to continue) I run into trouble.
Next is the 'Prepare to instal Ubuntu' page...everything is normal there, then comes the 'Allocate Drive Space' page...where I am only given 2 options (as oppose to 4) which are 'Erase Disk and install Ubuntu' and 'Something Else'
Basically...I have no idea whats going on...I think it something to do with my computer be cause I've gotten the same problem when trying to install it from a CD and while trying to install Ubuntu 10.4 as well.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this? Its a new HP Pavilion dv6 computer running Windows 7 if that helps...
Is there anything I can do to install Linux along side Windows in this case? or will I have to wipe the whole computer and replace Windows? (I'd rather not do that)
Any help that any one can provide will be really appreciated
