Unique wallpapers for virtual workspaces - broken

Hey guys,
I'm getting an error with compiz here. I've disabled 'show_desktop' in gconf nautilus > preferences, enabled compiz to draw wallpapers and selected four backgrounds, but all I get is a black background and some weird freeze-tearing issue.

Using Linux Mint 10

Here's a possible explanation. No idea how to fix it on mint tough. Maybe some PPA? You can always try to complie manually, but it's not for the faint of heart...
