I decided to install kde dsektop with the ubuntu 10.10 and after i got a few errors and no desktop. I went back to ubuntu desktop and installed more bits and pieces.

Finally i got the kde desktop installed and working. It looks real good, and seems to work perfect. Have to use it awhile to make sure.

Only one thing how do i make the time indicator at far right bottom larger ?

Right click on an empty space on the task bar,
You will see:

Task Manager Settings
Unlock Widgets
or
Task Manager Settings
Panel Options
Remove this Task Manager

If you see Task Manager Settings and Unlock Widgets,
select Unlock Widgets.
Right click the task bar again.
Click panel options, panel settings
Put your mouse cursor on the word "Height" and drag the bar up to increase the icon size or drag it down to decrease them.
Click the red x to the right of the panel bar when you are done.
I also use the panel settings option to move application icons when I want them.

Glad to help!
I tried gnome and always end up going back to kde.
You should also get your hands on a kde3 live cd.
Copy the sound files from /usr/share/sounds after booting into a kde3 live cd.
I use kde3 login/logout sounds on my kde4 system.
I think the kde3 startup sounds are much better than the kde4 ones.
