Ubuntu distros aversion to Unity continues.

ZorinOS 5 RC will be based on GNOME 2.32 desktop and will continue to have a Windows look and feel for the Unity-averse.

They don't like the direction Canonical is taking!

Why would I want my Ubuntu box to look like a cheap Windows Xp counterfeit? While I have some problems with Unity it is lightyears better than this.

This thread looks like flamebait to me. The OP has been posting alot of stuff like this lately.

This isn't a suprise at all; and it's probably safe to say that it's not a rejection of Unity. The whole point of ZorinOS is to mimic a windows environment - hard to do with Unity. Maybe they should switch to mimicking OSX? Unity would be perfect.

Its a valid point. A lot of downstream distros, Linux Mint, Ubuntu Studio and now ZorinOS, have indicated their dissatisfaction with the the way Unity has been handled by Canonical.

There just isn't a desire to change right now. And for the record, I don't hate Unity.

The interesting question, however, is what Zorin will do in the future? Neither Gnome3 nor Unity will ever be configurable enough to imitate Windows, I think. Will they switch to KDE, XFCE, Lubuntu? Isn't there another Distro that uses KDE to mimic Windows?

Linux Poison (http://linuxpoison.blogspot.com/2008/09/windows-xp-like-linux-linux-xp.html) (Uses Gnome2)
Linux XP (http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=linuxxp) (Out of commission but also used Gnome & LXDE)
YLMF OS (http://www.ylmf.org/en/) (Probably the best of them - Gnome?)

Here's someone (http://ubuntu.online02.com/node/14) who made a script for 9.04, also on Gnome.
Here a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk0xi01W9vk) to transform 9.10 into Windows 7.

There used to be something called Vixta and Lindows was discontinued by Xandros OS?

There really isn't any incentive for other distros to switch to Unity right now. Using an alternative desktop gives them an appeal for people looking for something different than the default Ubuntu experience.

That's true and they want to wait until Unity becomes mature enough to be useful to users. Right now its not where it needs to be and therefore sticking to GNOME Classic is a sensible decision for them.
