i was trying to install UBUNTU 10.10 in my hard disk.
it was having XP previosly. i want it to be over written and to install UBUNTU..........
so, i downloaded it and written the iso file in a cd and i booted from it.....
it was showing till INSTALL UBUNTU page and when i selected install ubuntu it shows an error.
" fsyncing/closing/dev/sda:input/output error."
why will that occur?

i need help from u guys....

Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded iso file, to check that the download was complete?

In addition to what Quackers suggested, make sure you burn the image at the lowest possible speed:
