Our entire household runs on Ubuntu. Last week I upgrade my wife's laptop (DELL XPS) and my daughter's mini laltop (DELL mini) from 10.10 to 11.04 with no issues at all.

However today I decided to upgrade mine from 10.04 to 10.10. Initial steps went okay and then the upgrade was completed.

1. I couldn't get the GRUB to work. Grub wouldn't boot.

2. My display didn't come-up

Finally after searching on the Ubuntuforums I found the following thread for to solve my problem 1.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9836539&postcount=5
[This was the best resource I could find. There were others however none of them work well]

To solve the 2nd problem I found the following thread.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592498

Finally after nearly four hours :-).

Just to add to this. The upgrade continue to give me issues and finally I had to do a reinstall after moving my home to a new part ion.

Lessons learned:
1. If the current version is working well not to rush to get the latest version.

2. Have the home folder in a different partition.

Also had an issue with the 2nd monitor and managed to get that sorted after reading the threads and switching back to Classic desktop instead of Unity. I am going to keep using the Classic until the Unity dual monitor issue is sorted. I cannot waste anymore of my time. :)
