for some very good reason , on on one of my installs I need to have legacy grub in the root partition.

Earlier, when tried upgrades from 10.04 to 10.10, I had some issues as the this particular upgrade tried to install grub2 and all got messy and non bootable.

Most other installs however survived well.

Will legacy grub installed in the root partition of 10.10 survive upgrade to 11.04 there or will the upgrade process try to replace it by grub2 (which is not desirable in this case) ?

Is there something to be observed so the legacy grub gets not damaged?
