A thread for movie addicts.

I just watched Gulliver's Travels (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1320261/).

Well, is not terrible, but I wouldn't recommend either.

I am trying to get my hands on Red (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1245526/) for the weekend.

Well, my brother watched it and said it is very funny. However, I don't think he has the same taste for movies then I do.

From watching the trailer, looks a lot better than The Expendables. The casting is great at least.

I just tried to watch "Vampire Suck", but I should have read the ratings before renting it. I couldn't barely watch the first 10 minutes. It suck really bad. What a waste of time and money...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampires_Suck#Reception

Vampires Suck received almost universally negative reviews from critics and an approval rating of 4% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus being "Witlessly broad and utterly devoid of laughs, Vampires Suck represents a slight step forward for the Friedberg-Seltzer team." [8] And on the Rotten Tomatoes Show, comedian Ron Babcock said that it's "scary that this movie made two million dollars more in its opening weekend than Scott Pilgrim vs the World." He then proceeded to say "America, can you guys get your **** together?"[9] Another review aggregator, Metacritic, calculated an average score of 18 based on 16 critics,[10] the worst score for a wide release in 2010.[11] Jenn Proske's performance received some praise.[12][13] Spill.com, whose video reviews are usually around five minutes long and censored, had a twenty second review which consisted of Korey Coleman staring blankly into the camera before uttering, "**** you" uncensored. "**** you" is the lowest rating the website gives. [14]In the audio commentary from the site, Coleman stated that "The films that these two directors make are so blantant at being nothing more than a juvenile finger pointing at an image or mention of a popular trend that, to me, they seem exploitive of a young culture raised to have an ever-decreasing attention span, thanks to the internet and channel surfing and, this may sound a little crazy, but, I think it shows a slight de-evolution in what people will accept as entertainment." [15]The review by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone was only four words long, which simply stated: "This movie sucks more."[16] Film critic Mark Kermode reviewed the film on his Radio 5 show, prefacing the review by saying "It's no surprise to know that it's all terrible, witless, boring, terror". He criticized the film for what he perceived as stale subject matter, saying that the Twilight franchise had left the public consciousness and was no-longer fit for parody, "It's not just that the ship has sailed; it's that the ship has sailed, gone across the Atlantic, hit an iceberg, sunk, been dragged up at least one company, been turned into the biggest movie hit ever, and is now currently being retrofitted for 3D for an anniversary re-release."[17] Another review from Collider.com's Jake Horowitz said that "not a single thing in its dreadful 82 minutes running time is even remotely worth watching, or considered even slightly entertaining." He then wrote that "no amount of review can make up for what I witnessed while watching Vampires Suck. How wrong I was to assume that it was even watchable, because with each over-done hit on the head or kick in the balls I cringed at the thought of this movie making nearly $80 million worldwide; and imagining people actually laughing in a theatre somewhere."[18]

Vampires Suck was given four nominations from the 31st Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.

Just saw "Source Code" in the theatres with my wife. Great movie, but didn't have anything to do with programming at all. If you liked "Inception," you'll probably like this one as well, though it doesn't quite stand up to it's older brother. And the sci-fi ideas are a tad underdeveloped. I mean, how in the world can a guy do anything within the bounds of the last eight minutes of another guy's life that the other guy didn't do himself?

I realized from the trailer the name wasn't appropriate. I loved Inception and I am waiting for the DVD release of this one.

I watched it for the first time in the local flea pit many years ago, and now have a copy in my DVD library. It features several stars who are well known, such as Clint Eastwoord, Carroll O'Connor (from TV's "All in the family"), Telly Salvalas (the original TV Kojak), Gavin McLeod (The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the Love Boat), Donald Sutherland and Don Rickles. It makes a change seeing these actors in roles different to the ones I'm familiar with.

Metallica: Master of Puppets= What were these producers thinking? The red border they used is hell on a plasma.

Watched the Green Hornet (the car and the actor who played Kato were amazing, the movie itself did not have enough action), X-Men the Last Stand, and Lightning Thief in between shuttling kids hither and yon and waiting for daughter to come home from babysitting job (they sent her home in a cab, which was very nice of them).

I hate how they translate the movie titles in my country. Here this movie is called "Terror in Antarctica". Sounds like those stupid terror movies in which scientists discover a deep sea parasite that kills everyone. It has nothing to do with that. Is a thriller about a murder investigation, that happens to be in an Antarctic scientific research station.

Thanks to Netflix I watched:

Tron Legacy (DVD) - not bad overall, the music throughout the movie was very well done kudos to Daft Punk

Easy A (Instant Stream) - reminded me a lot of the 80's romantic-comedy genre which the lead character actually references at one point in the movie. I would give it a watch recommendation for anyone looking to fill some time.

I saw "The Pope of Greenwich Village (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087932/)" last night. It popped up on CHannel UseNet the other day. I hadn't seen it since it was released in mid 1980s. Still a good movie, I thought. Although, it has a lot of dialogue so it may not suit the impatient Xs and Ys :P

Yeah and he's cooler now than he ever was!
He is one of the very few "big hollywood" actors that i like,
and that I feel is actually a real person, with his own thoughts and ideas,
who doesn't give a crap about what anyone thinks. . lol

Added to my list. Is it good? Doesn't look very promising by watching the trailer.

Kelly's Hero's is a great movie! Someone on here mentioned it in another thread, and that's how I found out about it. Clint Eastwood makes people like Johnny Cash look like a sissy.

I don't think that any trailers from that era were very good.

Speaking of Eastwood, here's two more good ones (yes the trailers for them suck as does the music in the movies)

Pan's Labyrinth ... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/

Outstanding. Best film I've seen in a long long time.

Does anyone know if they ever did an English voice over version of that movie? I want to see it so bad, but subs absolutely kill a movie! I can't try and read and watch what's going on at the same time. :(

I will tell you what a good English voiceover movie is. The Stieg Larsson Millennium series. Best trilogy ever! (I even have the hard copy books)

They're doing an American remake of the first movie this year. :P

Strike that. I just received a warning that several new titles that were in my wish list have become available. I will get Magamind (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1001526/), Pentagon Papers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330760/) and something else from the new titles.

Has anyone watched any of the following movies?

Glitch (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1283906/) | The Killer Inside Me (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0954947/) | Trader Games (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135083/) | Vanishing on 7th Street (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1452628/) | Main Street (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1365483/) | An Invisible Sign (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1212454/)

They all have not very good ratings.

Watched Ïn the Valley of Elah, an ok movie, makes you very curious about what happened. And X-Men First Class, not so good if you've seen the others. The one shot (5 secs) where Wolverine appears made me laugh though.

Did you see the trailer for Woman in Black? Awesome trailer! If the movie is as good it's going to be a classic.

"The Perfect Vagina" - 2008: Is a very well made documentary set in England. A woman sets about investigating the phenomenon of women getting their bits cut & modified. It is a very frank examination of the topic, where people are being very honest about it. It is somewhat repulsive to see a woman get a local anaesthetic & have her flaps cut off. It is neither a pleasant experience for the viewer or the victim. Though it is only unpleasant for short time for the viewer.

The woman who conducts the interviews is herself honest, & also honestly taken aback by what she discovers. We certainly are a very strange species...
