I tried, I really tried, but I could not work with the new "Unity" desktop. It might be OK for a new user, but I don't think that trying to look like an iPhone is the answer.
I reverted to the classic desktop after a couple of weeks of struggle. I just couldn't get the comfortable feeling I have with the prior menu system.
I believe when you are performing an upgrade, you should keep whatever desktop the user has had in the past, and not provide the unpleasant surprise of a totally new appearance. Advertise it, suggest it, but don't foist it off on people!
New users, loading from the Live CD or otherwise won't be surprised by the new set up because they have nothing to compare. But please don't make me change my working style just because you have had a new idea. This smacks of the cavalier attitude of Microsoft.
