LAMP SERVER not working in 1104

I tried every trick to install LAMP on my machine as a development environment, but everything has thus far failed. Instead of parsing my PHP files (even phpinfo()) I simply get a file download.

Auto-config scripts from apt-get, tasksel, and built-in routines in libapache2-mod-php5 isn't working or getting the job done.

I want to know if I am the only one experiencing this, or if not how to fix it.

Normal HTML files are getting parsed by apache2 correctly, but no PHP communique.

As much as I appreciate the new and improved GUI, Natty seems to me too limiting with its bugs and weirdness compared to the previous releases.

I'm reverting to 10.10 until 11.xx (yes, I might just wait for 11.10) straightens up. *sigh*
