I recently setup a fresh install of 10.04 Server (64bit). The first thing I always do is apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. After the upgrade finished I do a reboot just to make sure everything is happy. When I logged back on after the reboot the welcome screen still shows 99 packages can be updated. I do another apt-get update apt-get upgrade and it says all the packages are upgraded.
Anyone care to shed some light on what's happening here. I would really like the welcome screen to be accurate so I can keep track of what systems need upgrades when I logon. This is also the first server I've had this problem on.
