Livecd detects monitor, monitor settings, and adapters perfectly (runs great). I like to play around with unity but desktop install doesn't detect monitor (just places a generic monitor) and has black borders all around. Monitor settings are all for 4:3 or 5:9 monitors but my monitor is 16:9

I like my desktop install monitor detection and monitor settings to mimic my Livecd settings. I tried installing ATI restricted drivers but because desktop install is a convoluted mess compared to the Livecd the driver install doesn't go well

Is there a way to mimic the livecd on a desktop install?

Intel i7-920
Ati Radeon HD 5770
Ubuntu 11.04
