After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 my laptop starts hanging after lock the screen & also some time it is getting log off automatically while working.

It is really strange as all the work is getting lost in mean of working, is some one has faced such issue.

What is the probable solution for this, any idea ?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Just wanted to mention that I too have exactly the same issues. And obviously as mentioned previously, it's very annoying loosing the data after this occurs.

With nothing running but Firefox, I am randomly logged off. No errors or warning just just an immediate logout and the GDM comes up for login.

I am also having the system hang after the 10 minute screen lock comes into play. Not sure if this happens every time but it has occurred at least 3 times. Upgraded from 10.10 a week ago. I tried to run the previous version but it never started up either.

Just to note that it doesn't happen every time for me. It seems to occur entirely randomly (I've checked to see if there are any extra processes running when it does happen and there doesn't appear to be).

Hi, all!

I have the same strange problem (suddenly computer closes active session with all programs and goes to login screen), but it happens only in determined situation: when I'm starting video player, start playing video and then move player window! It's really weird, cause I can't find any error in syslog...

Same thing - random log off when I start a video on Youtube (or so I believe). Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity, Adobe Square Flash Player.

I am facing the same random auto-logout issue on ubuntu 11.04(ubuntu-classic). I hope someone quickly finds a solution, otherwise I will shift to fedora.

I'm also having the same problems. It will just happen spontaneously, last happened while I was in Google Chrome.

Seems like a serious problem, have any of the ubuntu dev's chimed in?

I am having this issue on my dell inspiron 1420. I just upgraded to 11.04 and never had any problems like this before. It is happening both in unity and gnome. This is maddening. I can't get any work done!!!

From what I've read in the bug reports, lots of people seem to think this is related to chrome, but I don't think so. This has been happening to me regardless of what I am doing. It's probably about to happen right now. If this continues, it looks like I'll be downgrading.

+1. Same issue here. I have found that whenever this happened, Google Chrome was running. Couple of times, I was able to SSH into the box from a different machine and kill google chrome and it fixed it.
I do have the problem of getting logged out/reboot sporadically too.

I saw this on another forum

Try disabling the screensaver.

Just passing it on, so don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't solve the issue.

It seems the bug is registered here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/783002

It would be nice if you could tell this bug is affecting you too, and you could comment on it.

I have this bug too, and it's VERY annoying!

Hello,

I got this today too... I have no idea what happened. Anyway, I run Ubuntu Classic, logging into a Unity session from time to time. When I run "compiz --replace" in my Ubuntu Classic session, it seems to get better, I think. Could anyone else try and see if it helps?

Cheers

Same here.

Man, this discussion is taking place since May, and still not a single TRY of a possible solution!

Amazing!

This problem is happening on my home desktop computer but NOT on my work desktop computer. Both have about the same specs, nvidia graphic card and running the lasted updated 11.04. The logout seems to come instantly at completely random times, not when I'm in any particular program so I can't see a pattern.

I've found the problem I had!
It was somehow connected with video output issues, so I followed the guide from
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/fix-for-video-playback-problem-in-compiz-fusion.html
and now I can view videos without any problem!

Same thing happened using a live CD. Funny since I never had the problem using the installed version on the same computer.
