I can see them out in force at the moment.

They're the ones who know what the devs had in mind when they developed Natty/Unity/Software Center and so on.
They're the ones who know what Mark Shuttleworth's motives are.
They're the ones who know what direction Canonical is heading and why.

How do you do it? I'm so lacking in this area that I'm even having trouble figuring out what my nearest and dearest are really thinking. I so often guess wrong that I could do with some help.... :?

Is there any hope for me? :(

Well dude, this isn't Microsoft where everything is closed up. This is open-source, where a lot of information gets put into bug reports and public development mailing lists. If you read websites like www.omgubuntu.co.uk, and subscribe to the Ubuntu mailing lists, you get to learn quite a lot about what the developers are saying and thinking, and even about the direction that Canonical is heading in.

You have to hold your tongue just so while staring into your crystal ball....

But then I get sleepy and go into a trance and I forget what the original question was.

Never mind, it feels very nice being tranced out, though.
