Hi,
I want to edit the appearance of my desktop by adding a background image to the panels but can't seem to find any sites with such images.
Anybody know where to find them?

It is possible to add an image to the file browser and I did have one theme that came with additional Gnome panels that were changed in panel properties (Pre Unity) . I don't know of any simple way to add images to menu panels unless you know how to make GTK themes . I actually made some Gnome panel images on gimp .

Yeah I managed to find these here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Gnome+Panel+Skins+-+cKPanels+%2824px%29?content=101871). I didn't really like them so just edited them in gimp. Basically you just need to know the pixel dimensions. Those ones aren't the full width so they just repeat along the length of the panel. I know it's 24 from top to bottom but do you know the length? I want to make a full panel design.

You can set the image at any length that fits your design. It's just like you said, the image is just repeated along the full length of the panel, its own length doesn't really matter.

Also, see my earlier post if you have issues with the background of some panel items, depends on the used theme:

Yeah, the thing is, I want to design an image the fits the whole way across and doesn't repeat.

I've started a new thread regarding this seeing as the original issue of this thread is solved.
