Unity rocks! But it is very different. How do I add virtual desktops in Unity? Is there a special tool or panel?

You can still do it the same way through ccsm > general > desktop size. :P

Thanks. Where do I find the icon or menu for it? I'm still getting used to Unity.

Once you have opened up CCSM

Double click on General options

Then go to the far right TAB and the Desktop Size

Thanks to both. It's working now!

FWIW, CSSM needed the package compizconfig-settings-manager and the function keys don't work (for me) on the Macintosh keyboard.

Press Print screen ..... F13 usually

If not .....

Shutter

or Ksnapshot ( but this will load a lot of extra programs too as its based on KDE )

Press Print screen ...

Thanks, again. That's the first time in years, that the special keys have worked. I didn't even think to try it.

You don't need ccsm for this (though it is a good thing to install). There are 4 virtual desktops setup by default. You can navigate them with CTRL+ALT+{left, right,up,down}.

After reading this thread and playing with ccsm, I realized there are some really handy keyboard shortcuts. I realised I would never remember them all (without more practice), thank fully somebody has already created a cheat sheet (http://www.quicklycode.com/wallpapers/unity-cheat-sheet-wallpaper/comment-page-1#comment-5733)

These do not appear to be what I would call Virtual Desktops.
If a window is shifted to fall half off of the right side of one desktop, it does not appear on the left of the desktop to the right.

Thinking of giving up on Unity and going back go gnome/e16.

I'm not "afraid of change", but I don't want to loose features I have grown to depend on.

I also miss my little gnome "eplets", like system monitors on the top bar.

I also prefer the old one icon per running window process, so I can easily select WHICH instance of a term or browser I want to open.
