Hello,

I recently switched from Gnome2 to the Xfce desktop (Xubuntu). I asked the following question in the Xfce forums yesterday and received no response as of yet.

Is there a way I can easily move a directory of webpage links from the desktop to the top panel. I have tried using a launcher without any success and dragging it to the panel isn't working for me either.

I have searched the manual, with no insights found about this.

file:///usr/share/doc/xfce4-utils/html/C/index.html

Maybe a plugin that someone is familiar with, one can do this?

Possibly a goodie that I haven't found yet?

Maybe a simple script that I can copy?

Thanks.

So you want a folder shortcut on the top panel?

So you want a folder shortcut on the top panel?

Well hello,

I asked the same here:

http://forum.xfce.org/index.php

I was given this as a response by Nick a dev ...

"The xfce4-panel manual is still in the making and the launcher only support .desktop files (which can add as web links too)."

If, Iunderstand this statement, I can have a .desktop file that can be added to a launcher but I think that is a redundant excercise, if it remains on the desktop in the first place.

So, even though I don't understand this process, for now it is not important to learn for me, as my directory on the desktop holds all the web-links I will usually go to and I will just use that.

Thanks for entertaining the idea of giving me a hand on this.

Mike

Or, perhaps you can create a customized menu (http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu -> don't customize the main menu but use the instructions to create a second links menu) and add this menu to the panel? Still, you have to create the .desktop files and no, they don't have to be on the desktop. The default user location for menu .desktop files is ~/.local/share/applications.

Sounds like an enjoyable project; Thanks for the tip!

I'll give it a try ...
