Helpful thread for login problems (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10772964&postcount=125)

It was suggested that this custom iso should have it's own thread.

Do you have the means to do a 32 Bit Version too ..... or do you just run 64 bit ?

I have Gnome-Shell running now on 32bit and 64 bit but for some reason cannot make my own distribution disk = time consuming and frustrating lols .
( I will be trying again tomorrow though - once I know the 64 bit one will install ok )

Glad that you managed to make a good ISO ..... all the system files worked for me and will
spend some time tomorrow working with it .....

I like the customization on the screenshot also like the idea of adding panels to it too ..... ;)

Thanks for taking time out to do this ..... :D

I just run 64-bit but if we have some success with this I might do a 32-bit version, but for that I might change to a virgin UGR installation, or the minimal install technique. Guess it depends on how much interest and/or problems people have with this one.

The screenshot is a little misleading since that is not what people are going to see when the desktop first pops up. However, just about everything they need to tweak it like that is in the ISO & what isn't is covered with links in the README.

You are welcome, thanks for helping iron out the bugs.

I just made a quick stop here to thanks cbowman57 for his efforts. I'm using resque cd just to boot up my machine, because my natty install with all the tweaking upon it crashed yesterday and there is no way to recover it.
I'm gonna switch to fedora 15 for a while just to calm down a bit and also enjoy gnome 3 on a stable (hopefully) kernel.
All the best.

cbowman57
May 5th, 2011, 10:49 PM
Good luck philnice, I just couldn't get used to Fedora or Suse myself but I hope you'll stop back & share whatever you learn from the Fedora/Gnome 3 experience with us.

May 5th, 2011, 11:28 PM
I just got a better idea. Since i'm going to format my primary disk anyway, i'll put on fedora 15, and the second partition would be UGR since it's the only available for 32 bit machines like mine.
They'll release their first beta iso in a few days anyway, so.... :)

Just an update to say the install procedure is going well as long as it will go onto a 8 Gig flash card .......
For the custom install it recommended at least 6.1 Gig ....

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/9933/dsci0679.jpg

Ok flash cards are slow ...... but will update again when its finished .....

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 01:39 AM
Yeah, I've tried some flash drive installs, they take forever.

Curious to see how it turns out with somebody else behind the keyboard. :)

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 01:59 AM
Its gone well - you have your first success ...... :KS:KS:KS:KS:KS :)

Now to customize it ...... yeah ..... good one ..... Thank you again .... ;)

Screen shots will follow ....

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 02:04 AM
You should be able to copy the themeselector folder from /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions to ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions and that will work, though you'll still have to download & install the shell themes in the ~/.themes directory.

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 02:22 AM
Ok will do that ion a minute or two ..... just having a quick look around first .....

Flash works out of the box ...... all my drives have picked up .... this looks good

Windows snap into place properly ..... will download the themes now .....

What's the chances of this becoming a spin-off distro with more fully worked in gnome3 integration?

Also, might I suggest Gnatty Gnome...? (see what i did there?)

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 02:37 AM
Not really sure. Isn't the UGR project planning on making a real distro.

I don't think I have the skills to make a good spin-off distro. Wouldn't mind collaborating with somebody that does have the experience to put out something as nice as Pinguy, Zorin or Elementary OS.

With Linux Mint postponing the transition to Gnome 3 there is a void for Ubuntu users that want gnome-shell.

Funny, I was thinking of Gnatty or gNatty for a distro name last night.

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 03:18 AM
Take care here check first have you already got these included ..... in the latest release ....
do not do this if you have ......

( Well the Themes (http://fpmurphy.com/public/themeselector-0.8.tar.gz) were a case of downloading and extracting into the
$HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/ and then unpacking it. )

and a reboot ....

http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/5264/screenshot6o.png

Am going to put this on my main hard drive as Flash is not quick enough for me ,,,

http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/3580/screenshot8g.png

running google chrome - as I only have 512 Meg memory on here and Firefox eats it all up ....

But upto just I like it - am now finding a few more features that I did not have before on my original setup ....

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 03:46 AM
If you want the dock, it's in the extensions directory, you just need to extract it where it sits.

Glad everything seems to be working ok.

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 03:50 AM
Cheers ...

I prefer cairo-dock .... will load it up to see what its like .... also like the fact the Power off
button is back without having to press Alt now .....

Good to see it's working for the people here!
-After a clean install, i can only boot natty in safe mode. So, i'm gonna burn another fedora 15 iso (first one didn't work), and then, upgrade to UGR. I hope i'll see a panel tonight...!!

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 04:02 AM
Yep working real nicely - even using a flash card on this old computer ..... cairo-dock is fast too .....

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/9469/screenshot12g.png

Add conky to it ..... and that should be about it done ..... for me ..... other than 3D packages too Blender and Wings3d

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 04:10 AM
Looking good so far. I like AWN, but the most important feature to me is that the dock hides. The dock extension is a nice example of what a few lines of code can do though, I think we will see some pretty cool extensions in the future.

Hang in there phil, you'll get it figured out.

cbowman57
May 6th, 2011, 04:14 AM
I don't know what the challenges will be running conky on it, if there are any at all.

If it doesn't work initially you might have to toggle on File Manager Draw Desktop using gnome-tweak-tool. That is what you want to do if you want files placed in Desktop to be visible.

23dornot23d
May 6th, 2011, 04:24 AM
I already have it running on my main Gnome-shell system ..... so will put the files here ...... to use

The conky is mainly Vindsl's work ...... copied his scripts ...... and added some parts from Quackers too.

I just modified some little bits of it to suit myself ...

Like the small signature picture behind the Time ..... if you create your own - and call it 1.jpeg
conky will then pick it up in the scripts below.

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/871/59231107.jpg

____________________________________________

I will mark the bits in red where it call's up other files ..... for the background picture and the
darker background too ....

ok my directions for me to load conky up ..... using the terminal are below ....

cd ~
gedit .conkyrc

cut and paste all below into and save it ......

Nice, and that screenshot is running on gnome-shell?

Just discovered something interesting, the xfce4-panel runs on it with minimal dependencies from what I can tell, it only downloaded about 6 additional files to install it.

Nice, and that screenshot is running on gnome-shell?

Yep I believe Quackers/Vindsl sussed this out a while back ...... yep working with Gnome-shell .... was
a flicker / ghosting problem a while back - when switching into the applications window and back again
it would appear for a instant in the top left corner although it should only be in the right.

But testing it now ... :D ..... and its great once its installed .....

I still have to try it on your Distro ...... will do it now to make sure it works .....

Sorted now .....

___________________________________________

Its all working well now .....

Dont forget to chmod u+x the .conkyrc file and the draw_bg.lua one too - to make them executable ....

___________________________________________

Ok do I leave it now ..... or try Gnome-shell with LXDE ........ or another desktop ........

How do you get this to work please ?

I have downloaded the xfce-panel .... but do not know what to do next ?

From the run dialog (alt+f2) xfce4-panel, or make it a start up application, though the outcome is very much like the Classic Gnome desktop.

Other news this morning, if the repositories are in the same state they were when you installed this an upgrade will now allow you the option of Unity, Classic Gnome, Classic Gnome (no effects), & Ubuntu GNOME shell. I haven't explored this in depth but all desktops appear to be fully functional.

Pretty sure I gutted unity for this project but to re-install it just go to the terminal and type "sudo apt-fast install unity compiz". (Yeah, I packaged it with apt-fast, try it out)

Gnome 3 is definitely more nicer-looking than Unity.

Gnome 3 is definitely more nicer-looking than Unity.

And more functional IMO.

I would like to have the hot spot in the upper right corner, something a few other people would like to see as well. Hopefully someone will devise an extension or hack to accomplish that.

KDE runs

LXDE runs I do like this .... such a good combination too .... for working with ..... fast and light too ....

http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/5233/screenshot9aa.png

I have installed E17

http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/7534/snapshot5j.png

but if its similar to the last time I did this everything will run alongside each other ..... E17 seems to
sit ontop of KDE4 now ....as the desktop background shows through and its in the process list

and E16 too ..... not been into this yet ,,,,

need to try one more too ....

I once had Gnome Shell and KDE running together , but that does not work now .

Whats changed .... think its lack of memory on this machine 512M and KDE also Cairo eat it up

I have just nicely got this onto the hard drive with everything updated ..... now we can start having fun as it is so fast now ,,,, :)

Just discovered something interesting, the xfce4-panel runs on it with minimal dependencies from what I can tell, it only downloaded about 6 additional files to install it.

That makes it very good now ..... panels are back in Gnome3 / Gnome-shell ..... with little work
just add it as a startup application .......

From the run dialog (alt+f2) xfce4-panel, or make it a start up application, though the outcome is very much like the Classic Gnome desktop.
That is very light - I like it ..... ty ....... am on my other system at the moment .....
but will check it tomorrow on the install from your ISO - DVD ..... everything is going so well ...

No, no link for the changes, just what I noticed after the upgrade today.

The way you are using that panel looks exactly the way Xubuntu does it. The xfce-panel actually has an applet that lets you run gnome applets if you want to, though it didn't come with the basic addition of xfce4-panel.

I think it was initially hidden behind the Gnome Shell one at the top

the bottom edge was just visible in grey .... so I have resized this now and it is fully functional.

http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/2636/forwebb.jpg

Thank you. ... ;)

( I think gnome shell with that one panel now makes it totally functional without the use of a dock
and is so lightweight too .... that for people short on memory its ideal as a solution to the many
problems I am still seeing related to navigation .... and finding things they found so easily before )

Found two problems with adding the new pane .... it want so occupy the same space as
an existing one .....

and the addon of the panel is not in perfect position but works for the menu selections and additional launchers ty

Try this, install xf applet plugin, then from within the xfaplet install the gnome workspace-switcher applet. Not sure I have the name right but it's an xfce applet that runs gnome applets. On my xubuntu setup I use it for Talika.

Here's the info straight from synaptic:

XfApplet is a plugin for the Xfce 4 panel. The plugin itself has no special functionality, its only purpose is to enable one to use Gnome applets inside the Xfce 4 panel just as they are used inside the Gnome panel.

Ok got a link for it - LINK (http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-xfapplet-plugin)

Looks like I need to install the xfce4-xfapplet-plugin

( this seems to allow normal applets from Gnome )

Quote from above link

The XfApplet Plugin is a plugin for the Xfce 4 Panel which allows one to use applets designed for the Gnome Panel inside the Xfce Panel. You can think of XfApplet as a tiny Gnome Panel that lives inside the Xfce Panel and allows you to show the same applets that the Gnome Panel is capable of showing.

sudo apt-get install xfce4-xfapplet-plugin

done - now just need to work out how to use it ......

http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/3346/xfaddnewitems1.jpg

Ok got it this is so cool and the possibility is now endless for addons

Got the weather applet too from the Goodies pack

This means all XFCE applets work now and all Gnome applets too .......

Impressed and the workspace switcher is working fine in Gnome-Shell too .....

( Was not working in UNITY though - will go back and double check it - as it locked up before )

After checking back .... you cannot switch workspaces in UNITY using the XCFE panel .... as it
gives you an empty desktop and no options to do anything.

But it works just fine in Gnome-Shell ....

I'm a little curious now, I just tried it here & the workspace switcher that came with the panel worked. I placed mine on the right side, oriented vertically and just left the menu, button switcher & workspace switcher. Set it to autohide, seems handy there. At first I thought that it wouldn't create new workspaces but as soon as you have an app running on an unused workspace it automatically adds another one. All accessible from the workspace switcher.

This is taking an interesting turn. :)

You add XfApplet to your panel, then you get a sub-menu for adding the gnome applet. Since we're already running on top of gnome all the libraries should be available so dependencies should be met. I've used it from xubuntu and had to add a couple gnome libraries to get XfApplet to work, but it did work.

Even if it turns out that gnome-shell or unity is a dead end we have lots of options.

23dornot23d
May 7th, 2011, 07:28 PM
Yep loving this ......

I noticed that too .... automatically adds a new workspace ..... sussed the tiny little
applet it shows for adding new things from gnome too .... added gnotes in the menu bar
and a weather applet ..... looking good .

I like too the way it all functions together .... with Gnome shell my CPU usage is low compared to KDE and UNITY ...... with Firefox running and my temp of the Nvidia card is down to 58 C again .... from 62 C not sure if updates or the XFCE power manager have done this though ....

Big Smile now ..... :) enjoying my desktop again ..... soon be able to start working again on 3D things ..... taken some time with all the changes ...... but we are heading in the right direction especially for the users that did not want to loose the panels.

This is a good way as I think XFCE is supported too .... in Gnome3 (http://pseudogen.blogspot.com/2011/04/gnome3-from-xfce-users-perspective.html) ..... will have to check this though ....

Is there any sort of demand for a 32bit Xubuntu+Gnome3 ISO ?

I've not got quite as far with the scripts / additional customisation... largely cos that ain't my bag - but it is stable and and pretty darn cool. :D

I think there might be, I'm beginning to see the potential for a really nice blend between the two.

I was hoping that there would be a few more people wandering in here that actually tried the ISO this thread was created for, I know it's in the possession of over a dozen people. Either they haven't found their way here or it failed so miserably they lost interest.

I thought the UGR project would have ISOs available for download by now, but for whatever reason they haven't released one yet. If there isn't one by Monday I think I will start working on a 32 & 64-bit version of what I run, with a name change. Taking a recent suggestion I'm a little partial to gNatty Gnome (not a typo). Opinions?

Awesome :D

I think a lot... and I mean A LOT... of people think that Unity = Gnome 3 and Gnome 3 = Unity... which is a real shame ](*,) Does your "average" Ubuntu user even know (or care?) that Unity is hacked onto Gnome 2...

That attitude/opinion may well explain the low number of takers :(

There might of course be the silent hoards who are doing it for themselves and keeping quiet in case the terrible truth escapes and civilisation as we know comes to an abrupt end :o

I must admit that I had "played" with Gnome 3 on Fedora 15 - didn't really get on with Fed (as a distro) but liked G3 and was subsequently really disappointed with Unity. Whilst many of the differences are slight they combine in Unity to an unsatisfactory experience - IMHO.

I really only tried it in a "I wonder if this will work" kind of way and am more than happy pop an ISO up. I'm certainly not looking to run it as an ongoing project - it was more of a happy accident and proof of concept.

I have neither the Ubuntu scripting skills nor free time and if you wanna run with it and I think you should then take this one as a pre-pre-pre-alpha :D

Gnatty Gnome has the potential to be the greatest Ubuntu remix of them all

Gnome-tweak-tool now supports shell theme changing, not certain if it's in conjunction with the theme selector extension or independent. My feeling is that it is independent but uses the theme format established between the author of the two apps.

Nice to see the added functionality.

Yes, gnome-tweak-tool updates from the ppa.

I tried to make a 32-bit version this afternoon but 11.04 kept giving me errors, in all desktops. Might retry upgrading it tomorrow and see if it repairs itself. They have updated the date for UGR to 18 May so I'd like to put something out there in the interim.

I was thinking about lxdm, but kdm might be an option, just something bullet proof, if Remastersys doesn't add gdm by default.

I'll try to explore the problem a little more tomorrow.

Think remastersys is not fully functional with Natty yet .... have added the required files
and modules and its still failing .... the ISO seems to build ok .... and it unpacks ok onto
the disk ..... using the Ubuntu customization kit .....

Ok Kdm to me is good to bybass plymouth and all the stuff they added to make it pretty
at boot up ..... but giving it more chance of hitting a problem along the way .....

Keep it simple and light ..... less to go wrong ..... if I had a reasonably clean 32 bit
install I would try it on that ....... now theres an idea another fresh install on a minimal
ISO ....

I need more USB drives .... ;)

Interesting, I was thinking of trying xubuntu for a starting point, but lxde might be decent. Is alacarte working on your test system?

The reason I was using a base ubuntu was to try and keep things small & I don't know how Remastersys is going to package it. Gdm might be forced as default. Let me know what you've discovered.

Have you had any problems with remastersys on unity? I know it does work well when metacity presents but now things have changed. I just made it to get an iso of my customized 10.10 install with remastersys, and works perfect. Status update on gNatty Gnome i386:

Well, I've shifted gears, I've arrived at the conclusion that Remastersys for Ububtu is pretty much abandoned. For the past 12 hours or so I've been trying to use UCK (Ubuntu Customisation Kit) to actually create an iso that is just like standard Natty live CD. The problem keeps cropping up with the gdm, I'm reasonably certain that it is tied to the autologin bug. I added Slim as default over gdm, but kept it installed. Using Slim I did manage to boot to a live gnome 3 shell, and the installation went without error. However, when I attempted to logon after reboot other problems started popping up.

In my explorations tonight I am pretty sure I found the best way to login with the 64-bit Natty Gnome I made last week.

Slight modification of 23dornot23d's instructions, whichever works is fine but this is what I had to do with the other image I'm working on.

From the logon window screen:

ctl-alt-f1
sudo apt-get install htop
sudo htop >>> Scroll down in htop looking for an entry that looks like: /usr/bin/X :0 -br -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-U8nqAq?database -nolisten tcp vt7
highlight that entry, press f9, then enter
press f10 to quit and you should be taken back to the logon screen, "Live session user" or something similar should be in the window, select Ubuntu GNOME Desktop, then click the unlock button.

Here's my dilemma.

Gnome shell will only work with the correct video drivers, so for the majority of users a live CD/DVD will not work and they will be sent straight to fallback mode, which sort of defeats the purpose of a live CD.

I can leave on disk video drivers alone or try to pre-install the Nvidia & ATI drivers.

There is still the gdm problem, if anybody has a workaround for that I would appreciate a solution.

I haven't looked today but the last I looked UGR moved their ISO release date to 18 May.

I'm open to any ideas, suggestions, opinions, etc..

Problems to overcome .......

1 ..... Speed of download - people probably gave up on it due to it

The last time I tried today it was down to 48k/sec almost dial-up speed .... for 1100 Meg that is some time .... took me over 5 hours to download it ..... 100k to 200k it was hovering around that was late one night when it should be reasonably fast but with just 2 peers it did get to 6 at one point though.

2 ..... The Login ..... if this can be bypassed its not a problem and to me its no
problem as it stands as we have a way to get into it ...... but its not pretty.

I would like to know a proper solution to this too - today using jhbuild and compiled the latest files.
( got an error in evolution weather though and could not bypass it )
I was trying to see what I could make Gnome-Shell on 10.10 to see if remastersys would work on that properly.

3 ..... The UGR Distro Coming out ..... maybe this will solve the problems not long to wait now.

I always look forward to new releases.

2. I haven't figured out how to add the scripts, and I'd need someone to write them. I'll just pre-install the latest ATI & Nvidia drivers. :)

3. Adding KDM tries to pull in half of KDE for dependencies, that's one of my gripes with KDE. LXDM on the other hand is relatively light. I would like to have a logon script that would just bypass all that nonsense for the live preview but that's beyond my capabilities at this point.

4. Yes, speed is a problem but that's beyond my control right now. Just have to leave it on auto-pilot overnight and hope that people with real bandwidth will seed it. This is just a hobby project to give me something to do, no sponsorship, contributions or corporate backing. :)

5. This is where the Ubuntu distro is really going face resistance. The gdm thing needs to get worked out for a better experience but it's beyond my control.

6. I don't think UGR will meet their deadline if the gdm problem isn't resolved. I'm hopeful, I like playing with new releases too.

7. Glad somebody liked it, and thankful that you found the workaround to the login problem.

Yep - Unity is quite easy to add later with it just being a compiz plugin .....

2. I haven't figured out how to add the scripts, and I'd need someone to write them. I'll just pre-install the latest ATI & Nvidia drivers.
That's fine works for me ..... and others will be able to soon sort this out ..... they are doing it all the time for existing versions ........ maybe better this way .... they get a clean install of the graphics drivers they want for their systems .....without having to uninstall and re-install them ..... they choose .....

3. Adding KDM tries to pull in half of KDE for dependencies, that's one of my gripes with KDE. LXDM on the other hand is relatively light. I would like to have a logon script that would just bypass all that nonsense for the live preview but that's beyond my capabilities at this point.
I agree - I do not think about all the overheads of kdm as I always install kde-full too.
something small and simple ........ there was another windows manger an older one
without all the bells and whistles ..... not sure if it would be uptodate though .... ldm

4. Yes, speed is a problem but that's beyond my control right now. Just have to leave it on auto-pilot overnight and hope that people with real bandwidth will seed it. This is just a hobby project to give me something to do, no sponsorship, contributions or corporate backing.
I gathered that and I too have no way to make it available any faster either .....
I am in France .... so its not ideal ..... for the USA ....

5. This is where the Ubuntu distro is really going face resistance. The gdm thing needs to get worked out for a better experience but it's beyond my control.
That's why I thought of dropping back to 10.10 and seeing what could be done from there
compiling everything we need for it ...
( jhbuild grabs everything needed ..... and lets me know if there is a dependency )
I do not look for problems .... but look for ways around the ones I encounter and usually it works for me ..... at some point we can upgrade ..... when things are sorted ..... but 10.10
is still solid ....

6. I don't think UGR will meet their deadline if the gdm problem isn't resolved. I'm hopeful, I like playing with new releases too.
If they meet their deadline all well and good ..... but still seeing a lot of errors being reported , not sure how many are show stoppers ..... but people are expecting things now
like the Themes included .... the Power Switch as a Power switch without having to think about additional keys to press ....

7. Glad somebody liked it, and thankful that you found the workaround to the login problem.
Thanks ..... after 5 hours downloading it ....
I was not going to let a problem like the login screen get in my way .....

Ok just rebuilding again on 10.10 ...... hopefully we will have a result later tonight ,
41 packages now to build ..... got a problem at 17 ..... of 41 .... could be a long night again,

I'm downloading lubuntu right now, I think that's the direction to go in, I'd like to build it with Xfce but that uses gdm too.

That being said, I worked on one today that I added LXDE to and made lxdm the default display manager while keeping gdm on the system.. the result was that the live DVD went right to a functional Gnome shell with only a couple minor complaints. I did a test install and that went well too. So, for all practical purposes I now have a 32-bit Live ISO built.

Brilliant get it uploaded ..... lets have a go with it ...... everything goes forward ....
and there should be more takers with the 32 bit if they can run it without using
the command line ...... and htop

More that download it - then the faster it will be made available to others too
that is .... if they leave it running after their own download has finished ..........
Should also realise this is just for a tryout too but be nice to see how many
problems may go away that I keep seeing on here to do with the Themes,

Theme selector is already included in your last one
and now with lxde ..... ( just a case of downloading the themes then )
.... ;)

Nice one ty ;)

Unfortunately it will probably take awhile.

I didn't install any extensions or themes in it, because I don't know how, or it might not be possible. My solution is a simple tar file containing the user-theme extension.deb, my .themes & ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions folder with a simple readme. Think I'll call it the gNatty Pack.

Yeah, the name you suggested stuck. :)

Sounds good to me ..... just got to finish some work here and swap USB drives
as there is not enough room on the one I am currently on for it ....
and then I will leave it up and running all night ..... hope it helps .... ;)

and thanks again .... ;)

Was Waspbloke that came up with the name gNatty by the way ...... LINK (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10775645&postcount=12)

Will try to follow up with any problems in the new 64 bit release here and keep
the versions separate ...... as they will possibly encounter different problems.

Hopefully there will be none ..... and then its just out on the bike enjoying the
scenery again ..... like today .... ;)

Links to more information and the Dvd are below in the signature ...... please only
use these if you know what you are doing and have done some testing before.

It can get awkward and most problems need some amount of work from the
terminal ......

So please do not use if you are not confident with using the terminal .....

Actually it was a name that I was considering but he came up with it independently and was the first to put in print.

Good catchy name ...... does not matter who thought of it really ... just did not want you giving me the credit for it in one of the previous threads ...... when it was not my idea ..... but I do like it .....

Here is one of my latest screenshots using the Tron theme .....

and used Cairo-dock with its neon theme ..... good animation on these Icons too ,,,,,, love the 3D effects of them rotating, :D

Hello cbowman57 (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=1089002) ,
thanks for building it, I was happy when it was finished.
While testing, it is working fine at my system, there was
a small error today when trying to upgrade so maybe
this information could help some gnome3-testers
doing it. I already posted it here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10841307

By the way:
Is it possible in Gnome3 to create activities and save them for your later work?

It was due to evince not being upgraded too .....

If you go into synaptic and tick to upgrade evince it also sorts the problem out .....

Somewhere something is calling to upgrade evince-common and its not upgrading evince
.... as far as I could see ......

Glad you decided to check it out.

@23dornot23d; nice looking desktop.

@grubu, you guys look to have figured it out. When I had that earlier I did a dist-upgrade and it pulled in evince.

I think currently on this system I'm using the ubuntugnometeam, gnome3-team, ricotz/testing & staging PPA's.

You may do better with the 32 bit version ....... for download for time and speed.

I am currently doing a version 04 of the 64 bit and will try to make it available tonight
taking into consideration what was said about me using autologin ..... which appears to make it difficult to run in a virtualbox.

@23dornot23d; nice looking desktop.
Cheers ..... have downloaded a few of The Tron backgrounds now and will try to add them
and the cairo-dock NEON look on the next build ..... which will have Auto-login on the last users
and normal login expecting a password to be entered on the first.

If anybody spots any new Themes that may look good on this let me know and I will add them as they take up
little space .....

I am trying to make it run just Gnome-shell and Unity and switch between the two ....
we will see I already have this ...... but it means a lot of work and a slightly backward approach as UNITY is not running on the GNOME3 ....... it runs on 2.32 ......

Seems odd to me ..... but they will upgrade later with the repositories you mentioned
for Gnome-shell ......
( its just one more choice and seeing not many people picked up on the 64 bit its a bit easier for me to try things out in this environment )

I am loving both versions by the way ..... and now swap between Gnome-Shell and UNITY
on all of my systems ...... getting the best of both worlds so to speak .......

I keep looking for new information too on the minimal Desktop proposed ..... maybe this
is in the new version 11.10 ...... ok all for now ...... work to do ...... ):P
