I just chop up the current interface via GIMP, when I do it.

Install GIMP (apt://gimp).

Mmm, was hoping for an easier solution - never got used to P$, doubt I'd go far with GIMP. But I'll give it a go...

Inkscape?

There aren't many programs to help you edit photos.

take the windows 7 panel, put it on the left side of your screen, and take a screenshot.

take the OS X panel, leave it at the top, and take a screenshot.

combine them in kolourpaint, and you have a unity mockup.

...i couldn't resist :)

but, ya, if it is basic cut/pasting things around, kolourpaint is probably the easiest to pick up.

But it's a K!

Personally, I partly do agree with your analogy - I feel Unity is the united interface of Mac's dock and Windows 7's taskbar.

yes, indicating a bunch of KDE depends will need to be installed if they aren't already and indicating that it will not be perfectly integrated with your desktop's general look and feel.

for me, still worth it. for you, maybe or maybe not.
