Hi there. I recently introduced my girlfriend to Linux and she loves it, but then she bought a new computer (or rather, her dad bought her a new computer).
She wants to install Ubuntu 11.04 on the machine, but it simply does not boot into the Live CD. She assures me that her BIOS settings are set correctly, though I cannot currently see them myself.
It's an eMachines E442 which, according to a little research, seats an AMD V-Series V140 64b processor. We've tried both the 32 and 64 bit editions of 11.04. The CD was burnt correctly and the 32 bit CD was used to install on a different machine (successfully) so it can't be the CD that's wrong.
Has anybody else had problems with getting this model to boot from CD-ROM?
