Hi,

I submitted this idea on the Ubuntu Brainstorm site, and thought I'd link to it here as it may affect you, the inconsistent behaviour annoys me! If this isn't the correct place to link to it, or I'm not supposed to, please move or delete this thread :).

At the moment ebook files, other than PDFs, have a boring thumbnail based on their filetype. Whereas PDFs, PNGs etc. display the front cover, so at the moment the behaviour is not consistent.

Many thanks

I guess that this is due to the way that the Nautilus file manager works. It is able to read and display in a small image the first page of a PDF document but not able to access the first page of documents in those other formats. I do not consider this inconsistent. It is just a limitation of the program. The developers of nautilus may not see a need or may be too busy with other work or may not have access to the protocols of these ebook formats.

Regards.

Certainly I agree with that, and of course: if the format isn't supported it may not make sense to display its thumbnail... (but once it is it'd be nice!)

I'm interested in examining the code over summer/autumn, hopefully extracting the thumbnail of ebooks will be simple enough to use the method for PDFs.
