Yeah, at Walmart, they now have Star Wars commercials on their display tvs, and whenever it's on, I have to stop what I'm doing and watch it ;)

I hope the Blu-rays don't have the version of Return of the Jedi where they superimposed Hayden Christensen at the end. I also wish they would put back in the original celebration song that was at the end of the movie. I have a feeling that I'm going to be disappointed in both instances.

Was it like that in the dvd version?

I have bad news for you guys, Lucas is only planning on adding more **** to the original movies. If you ever want to see the pre-screwed-up versions again, the only way to obtain them is thru VHS or download them online.

I also suggest you watch Plinkett's reviews (http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/star-wars-episode-1-the-phantom-menace/) of the prequels. The reviews are better than the actual movies and incredibly entertaining to watch. I never realized how bad the new movies were before watching these.
edit: Plinkett is not for the faint of heart. Don't watch with small kids! Bad, bad humor...

Anyway, not to sound too negative since this is to celebrate Star Wars, I do love the originals. I have a newfound appreciation for them.

Yeah, the DVD version was like that. I don't remember for sure, but I think even the last release of VHS might have been like that.

At the end where it shows the ghosts of Yoda, Obi Wan, and Anakin, they superimposed Christen Haydensen over the original guy who played the older version of him. But they didn't superimpose Ewan McGregor over Obi Wan. I don't mind some of the added computer effects, but they need to leave stuff like that alone.

Bah! Digital editing is great, but when you start messing with stuff, it gets... disturbing...

Yeah, the DVD version was like that. I don't remember for sure, but I think even the last release of VHS might have been like that.

The last VHS release of Star Wars/Return of the Jedi still featured Sebastian Shaw as Anakin. This was first changed for the 2004 DVD release, whereupon the internet literally was set on fire with the wrath of millions of fans.

I don't have Blu Ray so I won't be be getting these, but I'm not surprised to hear of further changes. It's something I'm in two minds about really. On the one hand Star Wars gets a proper clean up and refresh so it looks fantastic even after 30-odd years, and it still gets talked about with passion. It's still relevant. On the other hand some of the changes, while often brief, are just baffling. Obviously the main culprit being the Han/Greedo scene, which even now I'm confused about. People say well it now makes us see that Han isn't a cold blooded killer. But we knew he wasn't in the original. He's sat opposite a creature that is pointing a gun at him, and he had to get out of that situation. Having the creature shoot first and miss so disastrously is both pointless and looks poor. Knowing that Han was simply doing what he had to do to survive, the reality is that the changes to the scene actually amount to nothing. The only real difference is that the original was punchier and looked better.

But, it's Star Wars and it rumbles on. And I'm glad about that really. I'm just happy that I also bought the 2006 re-release with original films in the set. They're not brilliant, but once you've run them through Handbrake they look a hell of a lot better imho.

I saw a partial list of the changes on the bluray and I don't think I'll be buying it. Way to ruin a classic (imo at least)

We all know how this goes. The blu rays will come out and, after a few years, they'll release the unadulterated blu rays so that they can sell the movies to you all over again. That is exactly what they did with the DVDs.

No, they'll release the 3D version before they do that. ;)

No, sorry for confusion. It's the same as it was in 2004. Han and Greedo shoot at the "same time".

The reviews and feedback generally so far hasn't been that great for this new box set. I suppose people feel that further revisions are stretching their love for the films. I can certainly relate to that.

See, the problem I have with it all is that on the one hand George says, "they had to drag me kicking and screaming off the films. I want to put that right", and you can understand that from the point of view of certain SFX shots. Some things didn't look that great and needed fixing (or rather, it's nice to see them fixed). But on the other hand you've now got this situation where it's clear George sits about all day on his ranch endlessly re-watching his films and pondering what to change next. It's now nothing to do with improving the films, but rather some sort of random disorder, and it looks to me like there's no end in sight, what with potential 3D versions and whatever's beyond.

From a Star Wars point of view, I still love the films. From a movie buyers point of view, I'm pretty much with this guy (http://www.sfx.co.uk/2011/09/09/blog-george-lucas-the-neverending-tinkerer/). I neither want or need the set, and would rather buy something I haven't already bought countless times.

Hmmm it seems that George decided if he couldn't make the first three episodes live up to the awesomeness of the last three he will have to bring the last three down to the level of the first three... fair thee well Star Wars, I will always have the memories (and in the case of Episode 1,2 and 3... I will sadly always have the memories)

I remember liking Star Wars when I was younger but I watched them after a few years and I am like... What is this crap? Even the new ones have their moments but they are not as good as I remember.

Episodes 4 and 5 are awesome though. I like 6 when they have the original actor and not the young Anakin in the final scene. The final saber fight in episode 1 makes up for how immensely boring the rest of it is. :)

Mostly I am just a fan of Ray Park who played Maul. I was disappointed to learn that Liam did not do much of the sword fighting himself. The end of Phantom Menace inspired me to learn some martial arts, and I am quite good and sometimes do demonstrations at the local Highland Games.

So Star Wars isn't all bad :) Do not even have to mention Vader. Maul might be able to fight well but Vader would just have to stand there and look intimidating for the same effect. =)
