I have noticed that many people have tried to install gnome 3 on natty. I have also noticed that many have had problems. This made me think that it would be a good idea if a whole section in the software centre was dedicated to desktop enviroments. This could make it easy for people to install gnome 3, kde or xfce. We could make sure that it will work on Ubuntu without problems. This way people will be able to have choices that they know will work.

What do you think?

Ubuntu 11.04 is based upon Gnome 2. Thus installing Gnome 3 is quite problematic. 11.10 will come with Gnome 3 so there will be no such issue.

Installing KDE or XFCE on the other hand is already as easy as it can get (just install kdebase or xfce4).

I meant for 11.10 I was just using gnome 3 as an example. There are many people who don't even consider other options unless it is shown to them. this would show them the alternatives.
