So, yeah. I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04, everything went fine, restarted the system and BOOM! It froze on the boot logo. The little dots that move left to right don't move, everything just sits there. I know that grub is starting fine, and sometimes i can get it to boot into console mode (not sure how though).

Help!
Please and thank you.

NOTE: I cannot get the x-server to start.

I have the same problem.... now. I used the upgrade for 2 days before a reboot stuck me on the boot screen. I get the purple background with Ubuntu in white, the little dots change from orange to white and back again, until eventually they just stick.
Nothing happens, for several hours. Eventually I power it down and go to bed.
Haven't tried booting from my usb yet because I wanted to know what I should be looking for when I do, before I booted up.
Suggestions welcome.

About the previous posts--
TTY Hotkeys-->
<cntrl><alt><F1 through F6> goes to tty text consoles
<cntrl><alt><F7> gets back to the Xterm graphical console.

I put togetther a lot of info in this sticky here if californium's suggestion doesn't work:
