I have the standard 11.04 installed and have found a plasmoid script for monitoring my Hughesnet usage. It looks like I need KDE installed in order to do this? There are several KDE folders in my file system. Is KDE already there and hidden and ready to be installed? How do I activate or do I need to download? In other words, how do I install a plasmoid script?
Can KDE be uninstalled later?

I could be wrong here, but I think you have to be running the KDE desktop environment to use plasmoids.
To go to KDE you need to install kubuntu-desktop and choose kdm when it asks for your default desktop environment. You can later choose unity or KDE or whatever else you may have from a menu on the login screen.
I tried it a few years ago and have never gone back :)
