I ran update-manager on a maverick system to upgrade to natty. The upgrade process failed on the python package (2.7.1-0ubuntu5). When upgrade continued with "dpkg --reconfigure -a", it failed on many packages. The entire process has left the system inoperable; the boot process now crashes on a plymouth seg fault. I have found no way to enter a bug report in launchpad about this: the new bug reporting procedures require a functioning system to file bugs, and of course the bug is on a system that upgrade has made inoperable.
