I just started using linux two days ago some stuff I figured out how to fix but one problem I seem to have is trying to get the internet to work. I can go to youtube ect but when I try to run playonlinux it says

you do not seem to be connected to the internet, please post if you have anything useful, as I said I am very new to linux so be as detailed as possible.

PlayOnLinux (a WINE frontend) and WINE are fairly complex "issues" in and of themselves. First, we should probably make certain that your network connection(s) either are or ARE NOT working.

Try viewing some webpages that you never visit (and consequently should not be in your browser cache). I'm just guessing here but try these:

http://www.usc.edu

http://www.yale.edu

http://www.brown.edu

If the browser just says "loading..." forever when you try those university websites then you likely have a problem in your Networking/Wireless.

Yes, the problem is probably not your networking connection if those 'flash-y' university pages load very quickly.

It might be good to search around the Wine sub-forum here:

or [less likely but] possibly the Gaming & Leisure sub-forum:

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=93

I know that I've seen a lot of problems/error messages with PlayOnLinux while running Ubuntu updates over the years, and I really haven't had all that much success with WINE (although I have seen WINE be more "compatible" than 64-bit Vista with "older" Windows programs and I'm planning on using it more in the near future).
