Upgraded netbook from 10.10 to 11.04 and can only log in to Classic Mode

To be specific, I can log in to the netbook UI, but after that there's nothing for me to click on. I can launch certain things with keyboard shortcuts, but there are no menu bars or anything else.

Classic mode will work just fine for now. I just want to know why this happened and possibly how I could go about fixing the problem. I liked the netbook GUI way more than the Classic GUI.
