Hey all,

I have been using Ubuntu a long time, but am a completely inexperienced computer person, so will need some friendly instructions on what's going on here.

When a new version comes out, I always fresh install because I always seem to have problems upgrading. Plus, then I know that my computer has the most current kernel, etc. Well, I am trying to fresh install 11.04 on my notebook from a USB stick. Here's what happens:

I start on a screen that has a box and an = sign and a circle. Looks normal. Goes black with a blinking "_" and then flashes and goes black to a smaller blinking "_" symbol. After a bit, it goes to the Ubuntu screen with the 5 dots that blink as if it is loading something. A little after, it starts printing some kind of error messages on the screen for what seems an eternity to finally ends up at the screen I've posted.

Help? Anyone? I'm confused beyond all belief as I've never had a fresh install from a USB do this. I've even tried to a new USB with a different .iso. Help?

Have you tried creating the USB stick with Unetbootin?

You are using a SanDisk USB drive, right?

If so, you have three options:

remove U3 launchpad from the USB drive on a windows machine with SanDisk's tool (http://u3.sandisk.com/launchpadremoval.htm):
use another USB drive from another brand or a SanDisk without U3 launchpad
install 10.10 and upgrade right after boot.

It sucks, but it seems at this time these are the only options. More about it here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743527
