I've installed Natty via Universal USB installer ,but after reboot I get a black screen with only the word 'GRUB' written in. it's not a prompt ,I can't write or input anything and it's stuck at this state, please this is very important as it also blocked my way to my windows and all my data .
using x64 bit version .

We need to get a look at what shape your system is in.

Please boot off the LiveCD/LiveUSB, select 'TRY', and then:

http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/
Follow the instruction on the website and post the results here.

Please press the '#' button when posting and place the the script results between the two 'CODE' tags.

Boot sector info: Grub is installed in the boot sector of sda3 and looks

from the LiveCD/LiveUSB, please do these two commands:

sudo mount /dev/sda9 /mnt

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

After that, you can reboot and you should be operational again.

I had this problem with 10.10. It seems that by default, the installer puts the grub boot stuff on the USB. This is almost never going to be what the user wants.

Odd:P

I have almost the same problem: When I try to start up, the screen is black and there is NOT written "GRUB" and therefor I can't start LiveUSB and get the script results

sudo mount /dev/sda9 /mnt

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

After that, you can reboot and you should be operational again.

Thank you very much for your help , that fixed the boot issue and both my Ubuntu and Win 7 are booting normally now :) :D

I'm having the same issue. I've installed Kubuntu 11.04 32bit twice now. Both times it doesn't do anything when it reboots. No output to the screen.

When I boot to the LiveCD and chroot or simply mount the /dev/sda device and run

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

It says grub installs successfully, but it doesn't fix the problem. Any ideas? Here's my bootinfo RESULTS.TXT

Thanks in advance.

Nevermind. I ditched 11.04 for 10.04.02 LTS. It works fine.
