I've just done a clean install of 11.04. Everything worked fine on Maverick, now I can only get to the purple screen with the word "ubuntu" and the 5 dots below it. When I go into low graphics in recovery mode, I get a message that reads something like "Could not automatically detect video card, monitor, etc, needs configured manually". After that, I can boot into Ubuntu, with classic Gnome. I'm a noob, please fully explain answers!
I'm using a Dell Inspiron N4010 with Intel Core i3.

Hi and welcome to UF
You may need to try other boot options. This thread should fully explain everything.

I put in the acpi_osi = "Linux" option, and now my Ubuntu works like a dream! Thanks for the info!

Marked as solved. Thanks!
Also, with the intel graphics driver update, the boot option is no longer needed. Good job Ubuntu!
