Hi people!

I'm not an expert on the system and I just upgraded 10.10 to 11.04, and this is driving me mad!! I've spent hours trying to solve the problems but no use:

Problem 1: there is no option to log in with classic desktop

Problem 2: after I entered password to log in, there is this pop-up window saying "...problem with configuration server (usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gnof-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)"

Problem3: after Problem 2 occurs, nothing else changes on screen, no desktop or just no menu bar nor panel (not so sure which one) and the mouse is always loading and there is a white triangle shining on the bottom right...

And when I tried recovery mode, I was managed to get the desktop, could also change backgrounds, open folders etc, but no menu bar nor panel! (I tried updating from live CD, said that they are already with newest version)

What can I do to fix these?:confused::confused:

I appreciate any advice!!!

Greetings

Note: what I've tried and didn't work:

chmod 777 tmp/ -> result: "tmp": no such file or direction (this is the problem???)
apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
mkdir -p /.../gconf.xml.default
apt-get update
apt-get install gnome-panel gnome-applets
