Is it worth installing the 64 bit version instead of the 32bit? I know there used to be lots of problems with apps and plugins not working well with the 64 bit (flash for example) and the feedback seemed to be that there was little performance benefit. However, I saw a phoronix test that showed some big performance gains over the 32 version and wondered what the current situation is.

I don't need it for memory as I only have 2GB but my cpu is getting on a bit (AMD Athlon 64 3000) and any extra performance would be nice.

Are there many current problems with the 64bit version wrt apps, addons etc?

thanks

This link might help you, it's current and was only updated the other day:

For what it's worth - I've been happily running 64-bit Ubuntu for quite some time. Initially Flash was a problem, but it doesn't seem to be an issue any more. I've been happy with the performance and stability.

There is a 64-bit version of flash, but it's not in the repos. Click my FlashAid link. Other than that, my opinion is if you have 64-bit hardware, use 64-bit software where possible.
