I know this might have been asked and answered a gazillion times with happy endings and all but please let's face it one more timee. :D.

I have a Notebook (Compaq CQ-420, Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 320 GB HDD) with XP on C: and Windows 7 on D:. I want to remove 7 and replace it with Ubuntu. I start the Ubuntu 10.10 live CD and go to install. Select the option for "Install alongside Windows" and it shows a partitioning scheme that has only two segments. I get totally confused where to go from there as I can't risk my data.

Can anyone suggest me partitioning scheme. I didn't handle partitioning in Linux before so I'm not able right now to handle it by myself.

Things that might help me believe I'm going well are:
*How to set the root partition
*What to think and do for setting up a SWAP.
*If I know which one is my Windows 7 partition and select it for formatting to EXT4 and installing Ubuntu, is it all that is there to it?

I hope you understand my situation. I've only used Ubuntu in Virtual Machines before this and was never happy to see I had to give so much away without using this jewel to it's fullest
