Since there is a wrong reference in the doc

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/773427

could someone tell me how to add more workspaces in Unity?

Install CCSM (CompizConfig Settings Manager) using Ubuntu software center. Then open System|Preferences|CompizConfig Setting Manager and open general options. Click the Desktop Size tab at the top. Those are the settings I used to adjust the number of workspaces and their orientation on my system.

Great. Thanks.

Do you know whether CCSM could help to fix this issue:

Where is the System in 11.04? I added CCSM, and I still have no "System"??? Please Help! This is annoying!

Click the button at the most top right (beside your username), the last item on the dropdown list is "System Settings". Click that and you will find your CCSM.
