switched off ubuntu when i installed windows 7 for a bit, didn't have time to learn the intricacies of both systems. Saw the new release and wanted to try it out. Followed the ubuntu instructions on how to install it and make a live usb. Using a 4 GB Sandisk Cruzer straight out of the box.

When I boot to the usb, I get to screen that asks whether I want to run ubuntu from the USB, or to install it on my computer. Selecting the run from USB option shows a bunch of commands cycling through for a bit, then the screen goes black and just stays that way. Not really sure what the problem is.

Trying to run the 64 bit version fyi.

Does the 32 bit version do the same?

The same as what I spent, don't know where to go now!

There are not many details in your post, so I can only give you general advice:

imdmill and Quang4me, you have three options:

remove U3 launchpad from the USB drive on a windows machine with SanDisk's tool (http://u3.sandisk.com/launchpadremoval.htm):
use another USB drive from another brand or a SanDisk without U3 launchpad
install 10.10 and upgrade right after boot.
