Hello!
I upgraded to 11.04. All went well, until I (stupidly) enable the desktop cube. Annnndddd my launcher dissapeared. How do I get into terminal, and once there how do I dissable compiz?
unity --reset?

I tried CTRL-ALT-T and that doesn't work
CTRL-ALT-F1 brings up a screen that aks me to log in but won't accept my login info.
Thank You!

boot in recovery mode ("shift" key down at bios end process to see grub menu) then select "repair packages" then select "classic" while logging in gdm

I have same problem,

Ok, will try that. I am having trouble with the login info. I don't remeber having created a username when I installed and if I did I don't know what it is. I know I have the password right because I use that all the time. I'll see how it goes at dinner time...
Thanks

It's at the bottom of the login password page, after you input your user name.

Thank you for your response.

I realized that I had disabled "login" screen,

but instead I tried "unity --reset", then "reboot".
Now my launcher is back, but I'm not sure that, it is the solution.

I was able to fix using unity --reset
The reason it would not allow me to log in (after hitting CTRL-ALT-F1) was that I was typing the numbers with the keypad instead of the number line ;)
Thanks All
