I just started downloading Ubuntu 11.04. I was wondering... since my hardware cannot handle Unity 3D, will Ubuntu roll back to Unity 2D or Gnome Classic desktop?

Gnome Classic or Gnome Classic No-Effects. Unity 2D will not be included until 11.10.

eeeeeekk!! I just installed ubuntu 11.04 and compiz is not enabled! What should I do?
The right click on desktop > appearance > has no "effects" option.

The right click on desktop > appearance > has no "effects" option.

Try alt+f2 and run "compiz --replace". If it doesn't work then compiz isn't installed or your card doesn't support it.

Logout and check either Ubuntu classic or Ubuntu session. This should enable compiz, if not, then check your graphics driver.

Unity 2D is in the repositories, so all you have to do is search for it in the Software Center or Synaptic.

It'll use Unity 2D. That's what my netbook did anyway. Your first login might be quite slow while the system sorts itself out.
