Hi, it is my first post. Sorry for my english !
I use Ubuntu 10.4.2 Lucid romanian.

I had install Windows XP after Ubuntu installation.
Before Win installation I had these partition:

For Win installation I deleted the Madbox partition /sda7 (12.70 GiB)
and I unified it with the near partition of 12.70 GiB unallocated.
After Win installation all the disk
is not allocated as seen in the picture with Gparted:

But disk utility see the partition:

It is a hilarious situation because the system boot normally in Ubuntu and Windows, as seen in terminal.

Dino99, your link doesn't work. I checked marcelbanu's posts and the only duplicate I saw was a post in another person's thread, and in response to that post he was (appropriately) asked to open a new thread. Perhaps I missed a post, though.

In any event, the problem is identified in the Boot Info Script output:



/dev/sda2 overlaps with /dev/sda3


This problem is caused by the Windows XP installer under certain circumstances.

There are a number of possible fixes. The easiest is to use my FixParts (http://www.rodsbooks.com/fixparts) program:



Install FixParts. (Follow the download links on the FixParts Web page.)
Open a Terminal window.
Type "sudo sfdisk -d /dev/sda > parts.txt" to back up the current partition table data.
Copy parts.txt to a removable disk for safe keeping.
Type "sudo fixparts /dev/sda"
In FixParts, type "p" to view the partitions. Ensure they're all present, except for the extended partition (/dev/sda2). If all five partitions aren't present, type "q" and post back with details.
Optional: Type "l" (that's a lowercase letter L, not a digit 1) and tell FixParts to change partition 3 to logical. Chances are your swap space was originally in a logical partition, and Windows inappropriately changed it to primary. This action will restore the swap partition to being logical, which will give you a bit more flexibility for future partition changes. It's not absolutely required, though; you could leave it as a primary partition.
Type "w" to save your changes.
Reboot to be sure everything works. (There's a slim chance that you'll need to re-install your boot loader.)



Other options include using sfdisk to edit the primary/logical status of /dev/sda3 and using fdisk to delete /dev/sda3 and create a new swap partition in its place. Both these procedures would require extended descriptions, since there are details you'd need to take care of in each case.
