View Full Version : [ubuntu] Preparing to upgrade and other questions

Hello

I'd like to upgrade to 11.04 after I've tried it for a few weeks on a live cd. I've done upgrades before successfully but never a fresh install and I think the partitions on my machine have gone awry somehow.

How I 'intended' to set my machine up was:

HDD1
120 ish GB - for windows

HDD2
500 ish GB - I'd hoped one partition for ubuntu and one for data to be shared between ubuntu and windows.

But I can't seem to make any sense of the partitions I'm left with.

and now to the questions...

1. What output would 'you' need to make sense of my partitioning?

2. Once it's sorted out, is it easy to specifiy which partition to put 11.04 in as a fresh install (i.e. to put 11.04 back into the same partition that 10.10 was in).

Many thanks

G

Please boot off the LiveCD/LiveUSB, select 'TRY' (or do this from your running Ubuntu partition), and then:

http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/
Follow the instruction on the website and post the results here.

Please press the '#' button when posting and place the the script results between the two 'CODE' tags.

I did try to go ahead with the upgrade from the live CD but the option to replace 10.10 wasn't there.

How do I tell the installer to 'put 11.04 where 10.10 used to be'?

It seems that if I select sdb6 then it gets deselected when I go to click install and then I get an error message about root rights...

Confused so perhaps I'm best to wait and then upgrade in a month or two via update manager?
