Boot to terminal problem

I want my ububtu 10.04 to boot to the terminal.
As far I can tell this is the correct code.


Code:
sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove

I've tried it twice and I get a message about links bing removed or something like that, but on reboot I'm back to gnome.
