I'm running ubuntu 10.10 on a late 2007 macbook 3,1 and am having issues making video transmission function in skype beta 2.2.0.25. I have isight firmware tools installed successfully and, so far, every other application i've tested (including cheese and guvcview) have functioned perfectly. Skype, however, recognises the existence of "Built-in iSight at /dev/video0" and even allows the option to test but does some weird things otherwise. When clicking the test button under Video Devices the green light comes on indicating camera activity, but the small window remains black. When double clicking on the window to enable fullscreen this window suddenly begins to show video, but only as long as fullscreen is enabled. During actual calls, attempting to start video makes the activity light turn on and then back off again without sending any video data.

Now here's the catch: this all worked perfectly with an external usb camera when i first installed 10.10. after installing isight-firmware-tools, however, not only does skype not work with the internal camera, but it has these same issues when trying to use an external camera as well.

Hey shmibs et al.,

I have had exactly the same issue (same versions of software, however my Macbook is slightly older). I first noticed this a few days ago. Has anyone found a solution yet?

This is an old problem that reappeared with the most recent update to skype.

The solution is here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993262&highlight=skype).
