A few minutes ago downloaded ubuntu 11.04 with Unity desktop. Impression?

Vow!

Completely new, totally new. Nothing left of the well tried old. Nothing, zilch! I can not find a CLI console (konslole). It's got to be there, but can you help me to find it, please... Without it I will not be able to use the Unity desktop for programming examples and I have a Python demo next week...

Thanks in anticipation for your help,

How about pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (for example) for a real console, or Ctrl+Alt+T for a terminal?

Greetings.

Greetings.

Ctrl+Alt+T works like a charm. Why did I not think of it myself? Because ...
I confess to dislike the "real console" Ctrl+Alt+F1 - it steps out of GUI environment..

Many Thanks for reminding me of something so obvious :) Natty looks better by the minute - from good to better!

Yeah, there are only rare occasion were you need those, but I didn't know exactly what you need.

Also, there is definitely a way to launch the terminal through the so-called "launcher", but I wanted to spare us that in the first place. If you click at the icon with the plus on it, you can search for any application. Once you have that app running, and you want to keep it in the launcher, right-click at its icon and choose "Keep in Launcher".

PS: You can mark a thread really as "solved" via "Thread Tools".

Thanks again - I now have the Terminal on the launcher, though I failed to find it and r-clicked on its icon when terminal was launched by ctrl+alt+T. Really big help.

Your references are a great help - I will read them ASP.

Greatly appreciated!

And how do I invoke "Thread Tools"? (Sorry to end with a question :)

As you will see, I found the thread tools. Followed the proverb - "ask your nose - your eyes will show you..." Thanks for that, too. I thought there had to be a way for it...
