What are your must have apps in Ubuntu that are not their by default (ubuntu does not ship with) and are not in the repos (require PPA or DEB for installation)? Mine are:

Blender (2.57)
Grumblr (Tumblr publishing)
Skype
Dropbox
Kazam
Ubuntu Tweak
Wine (Dev)
OpenOffice (3.3)
Caffeine (Indicator)
Ejecter (Indicator)

So what are yours? It can be anything, proprietary or open source, free or paid.

Chromium (though with epiphany's roadmap to better support webapps and integrate better with GNOME3 I might switch back soon)
Skype
Abiword
GNOME3 (from the PPA)
xchat-gnome
F-Spot
MonoDevelop
Fluendo DVD Player
Fluendo codec decoder complete pack (I still wish they sold an MP3 encoder)

Aside that I tend to install a few games, World of Goo, Trine, And yet it moves, Achron and a few others.

Google Chrome or Chromium
VLC

That's it I think.

After I've mastered python 2.7, I'd have to install python 3.2 (is it .2?). In terms of apps, Glade, PyDE and Chrome (but I can live without it, firefox is better imo).

Python 3.2 it's in synaptics however.

Also....funny story....because my wireless didn't work when I first installed linux (I was a newb, still am.), I compiled emacs (And everything else I wanted from the repos) from source......yeah......(Only make file I've ever encountered that didn't ask me to tweak it.)

EDIT: Right, sorry. I saw it as normal/easy at the time though, because when I installed I was expecting gentoo stage one level hard.

Yeah... the package name is actually python3.2 however.

I'm on Debian squeeze Xfce (4.6)...

~ Iceweasel 4 from mozilla.debian.net squeeze-backports (plus gecko-mediaplayer and flashplugin-nonfree)
~ Audacious 2.4.4 from Debian sid, I'm now addicted to gapless mp3/CD playback.
~ Abiword
~ Mousepad
~ Nautilus (I run it with --no-desktop and prefer it to Thunar, though I still open Thunar occasionally)
~ File Roller for use with Nautilus
~ gxine, my preferred movie player
~ GPicView, a super light and simple image viewer
~ Gimp, gimp-plugin-registry (for the gimp-refocus plugin), gimp-resynthesizer
~ Inkscape
~ GParted so I can reformat USB drives after checking out .iso files via dd
~ Vagalume, a convenient Last.fm client
~ Talika applet, a dock for gnome-panel, I use it with xfce4-panel via xfce4-xfapplet-plugin

hm, I pretty much the standard KDE apps. I do have Chromium for the few websites rekonq doesn't play nice with, and I've been using Kword instead of open office.

VLC for video of course :)

Available from repos:

Thunderbird
Terminator
VLC
Rhythmbox (I'm using KDE atm, but I don't really like Amarok)
GIMP
Audacity

Available from PPA:

Firefox 4
LibreOffice (OpenOffice .docx files don't play nice with MS Word)
Pidgin (latest)
Skype 2.2

Not available from either:

OpenSong

I use quite a variety of stuff there, don't I? I also usually install the UbuntuStudio packages right away on a fresh install, but those aren't absolutely necessary.
