proftp stays deactivated

I setup gadmin proftp and got it working. Today I need to use it and now it wont activate.
Tried new user, certificate but no change. DOnt understand why it wort work :(

Still trying to get this to work, no luck. I tried http://ftptest.net and got the message;

Error: Line feed received without preceding carriage return


The replies sent by your server are violating the FTP specifications.
You have to upgrade to a proper server.



Is proftp the best one to use for a non public simple server?

I wiped Proftp, tired wasting my time.I installed vsftpd to try it out. How tdo I edit files as root? since I cant use gedit as is to change the config?
