Hi and welcome...

Let's start with some information... What make/model (any additional info) is the laptop and what version of Ubuntu are you trying to install... and what have you done so far that hasn't worked?

Welcome.

Let's clarify something else. Your thread title says:

installing ubuntu in opensuse gnomeWhich sounds as though you want to install Ubuntu inside opensuse. Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system; opensuse is another. You can't install one operating system inside another unless you virtualise the guest. Do you mean that you want to install Ubuntu in a virtual machine running in opensuse? Or do you mean that you want to replace opensuse and clean install Ubuntu?

If you tell us what you weren't able to do, then we might be able to help. Were you unable to boot the live CD/USB? Did the installer not start? Did the installer not see the hard drive? Something else?

Also - you want to replace opensuse with Ubuntu; understood. Do you have Windows on that machine and do you want to keep Windows? If you have no Windows and simply want to replace opensuse with Ubuntu, simply boot up the live CD/USB, choose "install Ubuntu" and then choose "use whole disc" at the second or third screen or thereabouts.

Boot live CD and replace old OS by installing using the whole HD. No more opensuse and no more windows if it's installed.

You are not helping us to help you. You have not told us what you have or have not done. Have you downloaded the Ubuntu ISO? If not:

http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Have you burnt it to CD or USB? Two links for you:

Once you have a bootable CD or USB, you need to change the boot order in your machine's BIOS.

There will be a key to press when you first switch on the machine in order to enter the BIOS. The screen usually says "Press <something> for set up". Something can be del, esc, F2, F10 or one of a number of other keys. If it's not prompted on screen, check your machine manual.

Thereafter, hunt through the BIOS settings.
