If diaspora takes off and gives facebook a run for their money, I think the world as a whole would appreciate it (well maybe except mark zuckerberg).

I would personally love it if diaspora kills facebook.

What ever happened to "choice" ? :confused:i never said there wouldn't be a choice, i'm just saying that if diaspora took off and killed facebook that would probably benefit everyone, considering that diaspora is open-source, decentralized, and doesn't claim ownership of any content uploaded by users.

I deleted my Facebook account a week or so ago. I also created a Diaspora account today (michaelcarey95@diasp.org if you want to add me; I have an Ubuntu Forums aspect) but none of my real life friends would sign up because none of their friends are on there. That is the one thing Diaspora is severely lacking, is numbers. Even Google+ (which doesn't allow under 18s to join) has a better chance because EVERYONE has heard about it.

I hope I'm wrong and Diaspora does take off, but I also wish the same would happen with identi.ca But all my friends are on Facebook and Twitter.
