Hello,

1 to 3 liters a day. It is not easy to really manage. How much you drink / shall you drink per day?

I think that there are too rules relative to the weight and age...

I drink about a gallon a day. I always carry water around with me. I feel naked without it.

If we're talking about alcolonic beverages, NightwishFan was keeping track.

:)

Well I do not often drink alcohol. Normal beverages.. Generally I have a glass of orange juice in the morning.. Hot tea throughout the day unless I am doing something active (in which case I drink water). Milk with dinner. :) I drink a good bit.

My usual "poison" is instant coffee (whichever brand is cheapest at the supermarket).

I have been a coffee drinker for almost 15 years and this year I switched to tea for a change. :)

Your body has the benefit for roughly 4 billion years of evolution. If it needs water, it has mechanisms to tell you.

There is no set amount you should drink, drink when you are thirsty or your body otherwise indicates that it needs fluids.

I drink a minimum of a liter of water per day plus Orange juice, tea and two cups of coffee per day.

I also eat a lot of fruit which of course has a lot of fluid that adds to your daily fluid intake.

Bingo.

When I wake up and feel thirsty, I drink a glass of water; then I drink coffee through the working day, and switch to green tea when I get home.

So basically, if I feel 'thirsty', I go and drink water; I have no quota. If you live on digestive biscuits then you're going to need more water than someone who eats properly, but you know when you need to drink.

Heh, I live in a 'dry' country...

Fortunately, the Hotels have watering holes, else no expats would survive here.

It is not quite that simple gnomeuser. If you happen to have lowish blood pressure, then you won't feel as thirsty as someone with normal blood pressure & therefore have to make yourself drink more fluids for your health.

Also, if you drink water more often through the day, you will experience feeling thirsty more than if you drank less water through the day. I know, it is a strange feedback loop.

Coffee is a diuretic so it really isn't a good source for hydration.

As far as how much water I drink a day, I try to drink at least 2 litres a day as advised by my kidney specialist in 1993.

I normally do at least 3 cups of coffee each morning, probably 1-3 diet sodas (12 oz each) through-out the day, and I try to get in at least 2-3 large bottles of water (about 23 oz each) in the afternoon and evening. Yeah, lots of trips to the can throughout the day, but that gets me out of the cube :)

As for alcohol, I don't really drink that much other than an occasional glass of wine at night after the kiddos are in bed or at parties.

If you have low blood pressure you should obviously follow your doctors instructions. However my point stands, a functioning human body will tell you when it needs fluids, in case you have conditions that alter your body's response it will, at least, warn you prior to death rather than cease functioning all together.

As you said, the source of water is important. Coffee isn't a source of hydration, eat fruit, drink water.

There is no set limit, your body will tell you what it needs.

And there is likewise no reason to flush out your colon (not that we were on that subject but we might as well nip this one in the bud), it will do that all on its own. Exceptions include legitimate medical conditions, in which case your doctor will perform the procedure if needed. Doing so without need can also be detrimental to ones health and in extreme cases might lead to discomfort, illness and death.

The only reason to ever deviate from your body's recommendations is when that body is known to be defective, in which case one should _always_ follow the recommendation of ones doctor.

Excessive water intake can even lead to death in severe cases, e.g. see the "Don't pee for a Wii" incident. Hence my rather strong feelings, it is ultimately seeking medical advice and is not suitable for a technology forum.

what your body feels or wants to do isn't always right.

for example my body wants to eat all the time... if i followed that instinct, i would be like 300 pounds already ;/

my body also wants to procrastinate all day and not get to work...

i think the programming of our subconscious and instincts haven't been updated in a couple of million years... it was efficient in another place and era, but not so much in this modern/lazy society.

That's poor diet and a bad work ethic. ;)

I can't handle alcoholic beverages. I vomit as soon as a drop touches my tongue.

So, I'll take water, ginger ale, or uh... chocolate milk.

Roughly a gallon a day of plain water, and two cups of tea: a black one in the morning and an herbal one in the afternoon. A beer or glass of wine maybe every other day on average in the evening. I guess I drink a lot :).

Coffee is a diuretic so it really isn't a good source for hydration.

Actually, this just isn't true, at least according to the Mayo clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeinated-drinks/AN01661). Doctors and Nutritionists make all sorts of things up that turn out to be totally unfounded.

As for the idea that your body naturally knows what's right for it which someone else put forward: this is simplistic.

My body wants me to eat tons of fatty foods, and the cravings I get for them are unequivocal - but eating lots of fatty foods is bad for me. Throughout most of the existence of the species, it has generally been a good choice to eat all the fatty foods you can, but that's just no longer true.

Your body is optimized for a very different environment than the modern world, and one factor in thirstiness is availability of water. I'd be willing to bet that if you live in a water scarce place your body learns to use less water, and you're thirsty less, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't be healthier with more water.

I know that when I drink a lot of water I feel healthier and am more energetic.

bier, alcohol, wine, vodka, ron, ...

oup's .. well I meant liquid.

Oh, I forgot :
Man, there is water (too) !

( Actually, alcohol is not healthy at all, especially for men. )

Thank you for your post. It helps.

What is your weight for 2liters a day? And how can you control that you drink effectively 2l per day?

And finally, can it be drinking water at the end of the day, or it shall be frequently drinking small quantities?

and finally, what are the risks for kidney diseases, how to avoid it? and what not to do to avoid kidney issues?

thanks

Welcome for your post!

I recently had a colonoscopy before my surgery. I had to drink a minimum of a gallon of water the day before. Between that and all of the prep stuff you have to drink, it wasn't a fun day. :)

If you happen to have lowish blood pressure...I wish I had that problem.

Yes, especially in the form of a coffee enema (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_enema).
